Hereís your chance for a night out on the town with all the guys and dolls. The WYO presents the musical Chicago for the Benefit Gala 2005. Directed by Marva Craft and Kathy McNickle the popular musical will be performed for the Gala on Saturday, October 22 with cocktails and hors díoeuvres at 6:30 p.m. and showtime at 7:30 p.m. Encore performances will be held October 27-29 at 7:30 p.m. and October 30 at 3:00 p.m.
The Gala evening includes food, libations and fun with live entertainment, excellent silent and live auction lots and of course the opening night performance of Chicago. Gala chair Susan Miller expressed her excitement for this yearís gala saying that attendees should expect a ìwonderful party, a great show full of music and dance and most importantly a celebration of the WYO Theater and all it brings to the community.î Attendees to the October 22 event are encouraged to wear their best roaring 20ís attire.
Co-Directors Craft and McNickle have received production assistance from Tandem Productions, set design is by author/playwright/designer Craig Johnson, Pam Thompson, and Ruth Godwin, lights are by Pam Thompson, and costumes are by Jeannie Hall. Craft and McNickle say they are excited to bring Chicago to the WYO stage and have put together an excellent local cast of 24 performers plus musicians for the on-stage orchestra.
Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart (Tami Davis), a chorus girl who murders her two-timing boyfriend, tries to pin it on her clueless husband, and then manages not only to avoid prison with the help of razzle-dazzle lawyer Billy Flynn (Dick Davis), but uses the trial to propel herself to showbiz stardom along with another murderous chorus girl, Velma Kelly (Kelly Miller-Smart). A dark parable of American justice, Chicago is a sexy musical extravaganza that includes the show-stopping numbers ìAll That Jazz,î ìRazzle Dazzle,î and ìHe Had It Coming.î
