Discover the new cosmopolitan sights and sounds of Spain. Founded in 1977, the Juan L. Sanchez Ensemble features the verse and passionate voice of Juan Sanchez, a charismatic modern-day troubadour who has transcended his Spanish roots to create a unique musical universe where Arabic and Sephardic melodies co-exist with gypsy rumbas, and sensual bossanovas are adorned with lush Latin jazz arrangements.

Juan Sanchez and four other Musicians in an interesting Pose
The music of the Juan Sanchez Ensemble is rooted in the Nueva Cancion (Spanish/Latin American New Folk), but incorporates rhythmic and melodic nuances that can be traced to contemporary urban jazz, New Folk and Middle-Eastern music. This kaleidoscope of musical genres gives life to the impassioned work of Juan Sanchez whose aim is to create ģmusic without frontiers for a world without frontiers.ī

In early 2004, dance artist Angell Estrada joined the ensemble, bringing her exciting blend of ethnic dance styles to the ensemble’s performances: from classical Egyptian dance and new Flamenco to interpretative Modern dance.

The Ensemble is rounded out by multi-instrumentalist Dayan Kai on 6 and 12-string guitars, charango, pan pipes, trumpet, piano, vihuela, accordion, etc. Finally, and not to be outdone, the rhythm section will feature Steve Uccello on stand-up bass and guitarrŪn, and Armando Fojaco on bongos and Latin percussion.
