Join us as Rosanne Cash and John Leventhal open the WYO’s 37th Season with an intimate evening of extraordinary songwriting, storytelling and musicianship.
One of America’s most distinguished singer-songwriters, Rosanne Cash has built a remarkable career spanning more than four decades. The daughter of country music icon Johnny Cash, she has both honored that extraordinary musical heritage and established an acclaimed artistic legacy entirely her own. Her 15 albums have earned four Grammy Awards and produced ten No. 1 country hits, including “Seven Year Ache,” “Blue Moon with Heartache” and “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me.” A member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame, Cash is celebrated for songs that blend country, folk, rock and Americana with deeply personal, literary storytelling.
Joining her is her husband and longtime creative partner, John Leventhal, a six-time Grammy-winning guitarist, songwriter and producer whose influence can be heard throughout American roots music. In addition to his decades of work with Cash, Leventhal has produced and performed with artists including Shawn Colvin, Marc Cohn, Sarah Jarosz, Joan Osborne, William Bell and The Blind Boys of Alabama. He also co-wrote and produced Colvin’s Grammy-winning hit “Sunny Came Home.”
Together, Cash and Leventhal have created some of the most celebrated music of her career, including “The River & the Thread,” which earned three Grammy Awards. Their decades-long partnership brings a rare warmth and ease to the stage as they revisit beloved songs, share the stories behind the music and explore the traditions that have shaped their lives and work.
Guests may also join us for a ticketed Season Kickoff Reception prior to the performance, beginning at 5:45pm in the Mars Black Box. The reception will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, complimentary beer and wine, and an opportunity to relax and connect before the 7pm performance.
